Yeah, I deleted my Spotify playlists. I do believe in integrity. I still am a user but only listen to artist albums now. I used to stream on Amazon Music, i tunes, and Pandora. I am forever altered. Sighs.
Thank You for you kind comments!! It's important that we have these conversations when we are on the precipice of a technological revolution & have the opportunity to make things right in Music & other creative avenues... ๐ค๐ค๐ผ
I, too, believe in the user distribution model for royalties. If I listen to it, part of my royalties go to that artist. But that also requires a monthly sub (or tracking every single ad a free user hears and dividing up that fee, which is not practical). Which means changing to a pay-only model.
The content curation is a fantastic discovery model. But it has to be personality driven, not just by genre or theme like a faceless playlist. Thatโs why radio DJโs, MTV VJs and music writers get followers. Their names and words are personally attached to recommendations. Look at the legacy Casey Kasemโs Top 40 still has today with his kind snippets of backstory on songs that entered the charts. With a personal dedication thrown inโ swoon! Algorithms cannot replace that type of human connection. And people will pay for it, but will the platforms?

Very good observations and truths.
Thank you for working on new paths for music!
